Take a lesson from recent Japanese graduates. I should know, I taught at a girls' high school in Kyoto Japan. They save money in every way they can. FIrst of all, the national obsession with luxury brand names is OVER in Japan. NO more Louis Vuitton, which is now seen as a symbol of needless showiness, and also a brand that's for old ladies. Not wasting money on label clothing and luggage is a first step.

I think that these are some really good tips. I’m in college right now, I’m a junior and I’m doing everything I can to prepare myself for all the debt to come crashing down on me upon graduation.

You mentioned knowing the terms of the loan. I think that, right there is the single most important thing. You don’t want to default you don’t want to get insanely high interest rates…know what you’re getting yourself into, because it affects your life for quite a while.
