Sanctuary Webisode 1 - BRIGHTER VERSION

Filed under: Online TV — Aimee @ 2:06 am

Well, it’s finally happening! People are beginning to create high-quality television shows independant of television networks and broadcasting them online. It’s very exciting to see this begin to happen.

Here is the first episode of a show called Sanctuary that looks really interesting. It’s not as high quality as you would get on the website but it will give you a preview of what the show is all about. You will have to purchase the other Webisodes for around $2 each. Well worth it I think. I will be posting a list of online TV shows and will update it whenever I find a new one.

Description: While tracking a young boy with dangerous powers, Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) encounters Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne), a psychiatric resident who may have what it takes to become her new protege… Downloads Available in Quicktime and WMV

    Online Reality TV FoxReality.com

Filed under: Online TV — Aimee @ 11:35 pm

If you’re anything like me then you’re addicted to reality tv, and you’re wondering where you can find it online. Well look no further because I am going to tell you where to find it!

The site is called FOX Reality.com. It has tons of online reality TV that you can watch on your computer. If that’s not convenient then you can download the podcast and watch wherever you want. A lot of it is stuff that you can get on TV like Playing it Straight which is a reality dating show with a twist. The twist is that half of the men that the woman is dating are actually gay and she has to pick a straight one or lose the chance at $500,000! Last Comic standing, which is a competition for comedians.

They also have Joe Millionare, and Temptation Island which were 2 shows I found pretty interesting for a season or two. Actually I hated temptation island…so ridiculous.. and fake!

There are also a few reality tv shows that I haven’t heard of before like Love Cruise, The Villa, My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss, Corckscrewed and more, they might be worth checking out. It’s literally hours of online reality show drama, it’s yet another Foximus dream come true.

    Prometeus - The Media Revolution

Filed under: Online TV — Aimee @ 12:12 am

This is a interesting video. It talks about how much the media has changed since the internet created it’s self, and what the possible future of the internet might be. I wasn’t sure which category to put it into since could fit into 3 categories: video, technology and online TV. I decided to put it into online tv because it talks about things that I’ve been talking about in that category.

I think the internet will eventually be the source of all our our home entertainment. There will be no more TV or lan lines, it will all come through the web. I think the net will change our lives in ways that we done even see coming.

Things may or may not happen as described in this video, but it’s an interesting look at the possibility of the future.

Online TV and video stealing viewers from television

Filed under: Online TV — Aimee @ 11:29 pm

    Author: Aimee

CBC reports: a study out of Britain shows that online video is stealing viewers from traditional television.

This study suggests that the people who are watching online TV and video (43% based on the numbers) are watching less television. It makes sense, I don’t watch as much television as I did before I discovered onlinetv because I can get a lot of my shows whenever I want. If I miss an episode of Heros I just watch it online to catch up. I actually watched the first 18 episodes on my computer (in one weekend)…that’s what got me hooked on the show in the first place.

Anyway, back to the article. It says that internet television has increased steadily over the last year because of mobile video and sites like YouTube. It is growing so fast that businesses are starting to take notice and invest their money into this powerful new form of communication.

According to this article, the number one video of all time is The Star Wars Kid. It features a guy pretending he’s fighting with a light saber. I have to admit…it is pretty funny! Be careful what you do infront of a camera because at just the click of a mouse you can be broadcasted whether you like it or not!

abc.com - Why are they blocking Canadians?

Filed under: Online TV — Aimee @ 11:59 pm

    Author: Aimee

As a person who watches a lot of ABC shows like Grey’s Anatomy, October Road, Ugly Betty, Dancing with the Stars and others, I was very excited when I heard that all of these shows were available online anytime I wanted to watch them. Once I logged on, I was dissapointed to find out that they were only available to people within the United States.

This is so not fair! They show commercials with these online tv shows, why can’t I watch them? Allowing them to be viewed by people around the world would give more exposure to their sponsors. Do I not have money? If you show me an advertisement, will I not go out and buy stuff?

I think as Canadians (and people outside the US) we should take a stand against this injustice! Contact ABC and tell them that you want to watch their shows online!

    video.aol.com Review

Filed under: Online TV — Aimee @ 11:28 pm

Although it isn’t all free, video.aol.com is possibly the biggest and most popular onlinetv website. You can watch everything from internet video clips, to full network television shows. You can even purchase and download movies directly to your PC.

Most TV shows that cost money are around $1.99 (US) to download. Some of them are free.

I like this site because you can watch those old shows that you used to watch when you were a kid. Did you miss 24 this week? No problem, just download it from aol! Want to hear more about the latest hollywood scandal? (I know I do) Just log onto the site and pick your pleasure. It shouldn’t be hard to find because they claim to have the most comprehensive database of videos out there.

As for the quality, I tried watching a Beyonce/Shakira video and it was pretty good on a small screen, but when I enlarged it to full screen, the video was pixilated and very choppy. Still the it is much better than most other sites i’ve seen…except for maybe getdemocracy.com which lets you download your videos before you watch them, which makes for a better viewing experience.

This site also has many of the user videos that we all love to watch, and they’re ranked in order of popularity so it’s an easy way to find the best videos out there.

    Sell your own videos
video.aol.com also lets you sell your own videos through Brightcove. They let you upload your videos and sell them on a per-view basis. Brightcove is kind enough to let you keep 70% of the purchase price.

I give a thumbs up to video.aol.com. I still think it should be free, (they’re making money on commercials anyway aren’t they?) but I think it is heading in the right direction, it gives us a much greater control over what we watch, and when we watch tv. Also the fact that they charge for some videos does give an incentive to those wanna-be directors or artists out there who want to make videos, television shows, music videos, or movies and now actually have a chance to make money at it!

This could be the next big thing in online entertainment. Get democracy is a non-profit website which offers a free, open-source onlineTV browser where the users create the content. Anyone with a camera and a computer can have their own online channel. We as viewers can now watch commercial free entertainment, and choose our own programming.

We’re developing the Democracy internet TV platform so that watching internet video channels will be as easy as watching TV and broadcasting a channel will be open to everyone. Unlike traditional TV, everyone will have a voice.”
    - getdemocracy.com

As I write this, they have over 1000 channels in 24 categories. You can learn about cooking, watch fashion television, watch international news and much more.

Here is a list of the different channel categories that they have to offer in their online tv client:
