Your wedding day is the most important day of your life and one you will always remember. Unfortunately, too often the high cost of weddings tends to discourage many young couples from having the large wedding of their dreams. You may not have to give up these special dreams if you follow some very smart tips on how you can save money on weddings.
Double check your wedding list for people that can be eliminated. While it may have always been your dream to have a large wedding. Weddings should be for family and friends. If you haven’t seen people in over 5 years, they’re probably not close friends. The same goes for long distance relatives you haven’t seen in years. Why waste the postage on them? If they do come, you’re paying for catering, favors, etc. for people you probably won’t see for another 5 or more years. Limit your guest list to those you really want to be there to share your special day.
Save on postage costs. In addition to not wasting invitations on those you know won’t be coming, you can eliminate the inner envelope and blotter paper. This will save costs on your wedding invitation package. You may also eliminate the RSVP card and ask that they reply by phone or email. You’ll have a double savings here-the printer bill and postage.
Consider making your own wedding invitations. Wedding invitations can be quite costly. With some of the newer software available, you can purchase programs that, with just a little computer savvy, will make professional looking wedding invitations for less than half the cost.
Look for a cheaper wedding dress. You may have been dreaming of the perfect wedding dress for this very special day for a long time but keep in mind that it is only one day. You can find some excellent discount wedding dresses “on the rack” in department stores, on the internet or even in discount shops. You’ll save a fortune if you can find the dress of your dreams here. It’s definitely worth a look.
Shop around for favors and attendant gifts. You’d be surprised the money you can save by shopping in discount stores, online or on EBay. You’ll find that you’re paying a lot less for these items this way as opposed to buying them from wedding catalogues.
Look for ways to save on food. Catering and food is a major expense for weddings, especially if you’re having a large wedding. If you confide to your caterer that you’re trying to cut back on costs, he may come up with many suggestions to help you do this such as buffet rather than sit-down meal, chicken rather than sirloin strips, etc. There are a lot of ways you can cut back on food and still provide your guests with a delicious meal.
Cut back on photography. Although every couple wants photographs of their wedding day, consider hiring a photographer that’s just starting out in business and not as expensive as a more well-known photographer. Consider asking a family member to video tape the day for you as well.
If you take your time and look at all the expenses involved in your wedding day, you’ll find there are many ways you can save a lot of money and still have the wedding of your dreams.
